"I have learned a LOT of interesting stuff and met brilliant people. I hope we will keep in touch."
"We did not have to worry about anything. From accommodation to everything we had guidance in Rennes. I miss Rennes."
"I have to say that Rennes is definitely one of the best organized nodes. [My friend] and me are trying to convince first year students to change to Rennes :)"
"The coursework taught in Rennes was one of the reasons I actually got this [job] opportunity. That really helped me."
"Rennes is an amazing city to live in."
"I am and will also be grateful for all what you have done for me."

The University of Rennes 1 offers an International Master Program in Cloud Computing and Services and Technological Innovation and entrepreneurship within the European EIT Digital master school .

This Master program – delivered entirely in English – prepares future professionals and researchers with an advanced scientific and technological education together with a unique hands-on experience in technological innovation and entrepreneurship. After a first year in Rennes, the second year will take place in Berlin, Helsinki, Stockholm or Delft. Students will receive a double degree from two universities, and a Certificate from the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT).

Privileged access to the EIT Digital community

The domain of Cloud Computing and Services includes many hot topics such as mobile applications and services, online social networks and web services. These technologies are now present in a broad range of devices and systems ranging from smartphones to data centers. New scientific and technological developments in this area create considerable industry demand for engineers who can design software systems utilizing these developments.

This Master program is an educational response to this industrial demand. It provides students with state-of-the-art knowledge of the field, develops their practical skills and enhances their ability to adapt to the future
developments of science and technology.

After completion of the program, students will deeply understand large-scale distributed systems, be able to design and construct such systems and services, and become key players to transform technology into innovations, new products and services.

This program ideally prepares students to spot opportunities for new high-tech products and successfully bring them to the market. A course on the fundamentals of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the Business Development Labs Course and a summer school program are vital parts of this module. The Rennes EIT Digital Labs co-location center also organizes frequent meetings with entrepreneurs and industry professionals.

Rennes is the largest center for education and research in the West of France. With over 60,000 students on a population of 250,000, Rennes is arguably one of France’s liveliest and student-friendliest cities. It is also an internationally recognized high-tech R&D center in cloud computing, networks and media.

Among its many activities, the University of Rennes 1 offers internationally-acknowledged master and doctoral degrees in ICT, a business school and a faculty of economics, which make it a perfect place for ICT innovation. Its campus is ideally located next to major industrial R&D centers (Orange, Alcatel-Lucent, Technicolor, Thales,
Canon, Thomson etc.), over 300 SMEs, start-up incubators, etc.

Professors also conduct world-leading research at INRIA/IRISA, the largest research lab in ICT in France with 750 researchers and staff members. INRIA/IRISA’s research focuses on major cross-disciplinary fields, such as cloud
computing, the Internet of the future, images & interaction, security and computational sciences.

  • Pursue a career in research, after completing a PhD.

Starting in 2016-2017, the University of Rennes 1 will be able to accept students who follow the Cloud Computing and Services program without being part of the EIT Digital master school. Students who make this choice will carry out both study years in Rennes, and they will eventually receive a Masters degree from the University of Rennes 1 with no EIT certificate. Further description of the two available options is available below.

International mobilityStudents will perform their two study years in two different universities in two different countries among TU Berlin (Germany), University of Rennes 1 (France), KTH (Sweden), Aalto (Finland) and TU Delft (the Netherlands). For example: entry year at the university of Rennes 1 + exit year at KTH university (Sweden). Or: entry year at the Aalto university (Finland) + exit year at the university of Rennes 1. And so on...Students will perform both study years at the University of Rennes 1.

Summer schoolStudents will attend a two-weeks summer school between their entry and exit year. All costs are covered by the EIT Digital master schoolStudents may attend a two-weeks summer school between their entry and exit year but they will have to pay the travel and accommodation costs themselves.
DegreeIf successful, students will receive two master degrees (one from each university they studied in) + a certificate by EIT.If successful, students will receive a master degree from University of Rennes 1.
Tuition feesDetailed information about tuition fees is available on the master school web site. In short: E.U. citizens do not have to pay any tuition fee; others must pay 8000 Euros/year.Students will have to pay the standard tuition fees from public French universities. In 2015 these fees were 256 euros/year.
EIT ScholarshipsThe EIT Digital master school offers generous scholarships to students with excellent applications. Details about these scholarships are available on the master school web site.EIT Digital scholarships are not available.
Other scholarshipsThere exists other forms of scholarships which may be available depending
on each student's situation. Please contact us for more information.
AccommodationStudents must pay for accommodation. The university of Rennes 1 however guarantees access to inexpensive student rooms (in the order of 160-250 euros/month depending on the type of room). Students can also apply for state subsidies which partially cover these costs. The accommodation options in other universities vary, please contact them directly for accurate information.Students must pay for accommodation. The same types of inexpensive student rooms are available on a first come, first serve basis. The same type of state subsidies are also available under the same conditions.
